Overview
This block focuses on identifying the importance of relationships between the provider and children. It will also look at building a respectful and reciprocal relationship with families that will help the children learn and grow. Hands on practice with child observations and parental communications will occur.
Objective
2.2.a. Includes the program’s philosophy about provider/family relationships into work with families
2.2b. Values families and welcomes them into the classroom, program, or home setting
2.2.d. Communicates regularly with families to share the accomplishments of the child, answer questions, and discuss activities and progress.
2.2.f. Engages families in planning curriculum and activities, evaluating program outcomes, and planning transitions.
2.3.e. Works with families to include teaching and learning opportunities in natural ways throughout the child’s day.
3.1.b. Assesses children’s progress across all developmental domains.
3.1.c. Uses multiple methods for gathering information and collecting data,
3.1.g. Uses assessment practices that are relevant to curriculum or program planning
3.1.h. Shares and applies current theory, research, and policy on assessment through developmentally appropriate
methods.
3.3. b. Engages families in discussion about the program’s philosophy of assessment, the assessment process, and
family participation.
3.4.a. Shares assessment results in a sensitive manner that is understandable for families.
4.3.e. Allows natural consequences to guide children’s behavior as much as possible, making sure the child
understands the connection
4.3.j. Teaches children effective and socially appropriate ways to meet their wants and needs
4.3.l. Remains calm and respectful toward the child exhibiting challenging behavior
4.4.h. Provides children with time, space, trust, support, and guidance to assist them in finding their own solutions to
social problems
