Overview

In this online training, participants will gain Understanding the highs and lows of blood sugar can keep children with diabetes safe while in your care. This training includes information from American Diabetes Association Safe at School campaign regarding the basic needs that children with diabetes need throughout the day.

Objective

5.1 Identifies practices that encourage positive health behaviors and support the physical and mental well-being of children and families.
5.1.d Recognizes and responds to signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses
5.1.f Assure the appropriate implementation of medical and physical care plans

Participants will:

  • Understand the basic needs that children with diabetes have and the role of caregivers
  • Gain an understanding of different types of treatment options for children with diabetes
  • Understand how to recognize and respond to symptoms of Hyperglycemia & Hypoglycemia 
  • Understand the importance of obtaining a Diabetes Medical Management Plan and steps for administration of emergency medication for a diabetes emergency
