Overview
Children have the natural ability to play.  As childcare providers, we must ensure that children are playing with a purpose to enhance their learning experiences.  In this face-to-face professional development, participants will learn the developmental benefits, enhancing their classroom environment, and their role to enhance purposeful play!

 

Objective

1.2 Applies the process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to support children’s growth through developmentally appropriate practices.

1.2 G. Facilitates opportunities for children to learn and practice skills.

1.6 Supports children’s gross and fine motor development

1.6 B. Creates opportunities for children to practice skills support the age-appropriate development of coordination, balance, movement, and strength.

1.7 Supports children’s cognitive development

1.7 E. Engages children in activities to support the development of play and problem-solving skills.

1.8  Promotes emergent literacy including speaking, listening, reading, and writing through play and interaction with children

1.8 B. Creates an environment where children have access to a variety of developmentally appropriate objects and materials to support early and emergent literacy.

1.10  Facilitates children's play to encourage development across domains

1.10 C. Joins children’s play only when the adult’s participation will enhance the child’s play.

4.2 Creates an environment that is predictable, promotes interaction and learning, and is responsive to the needs of all children

4.2 A. Plans, implements, and adapts a supportive learning environment that promotes children’s safety, positive interactions, and behaviors

4.3 Works to effectively promote social and emotional development and prevent

challenging behaviors

4.3 B. Supports environmental arrangements that promote social and emotional development (i.e., a quiet space for

children to calm down)

4.4 Establishes a learning environment within group settings that is well-organized and visually pleasing, and promotes reflection, extends learning, and encourages self-management and cooperation

4.4 a. Designs an environment to include:

personal space for each child to ensure his/her sense of belonging and security
both active and quiet spaces

large muscle activity and movement spaces
